I don’t usually travel to Thane for food, always of the opinion that there are better places elsewhere. But one Sunday, one Cafe later I think I have a reason to be here more often!
We decided to look at Cafe style eating options in Zomato and one name caught my eye, Cafe 12. The decor looked very intriguing in the photos as well as the food options.
As we stepped in the cafe, the first thing we noticed was the dim lighting, casual ambience that sets the perfect tone for a relaxed meal.
The owner personally told us the story behind the unusual tables. He has them made with the planks from packing boxes that would usually go waste. What an unique ecofriendly idea!
The servers were keen on explaining the menu and what should we try since it was our first visit. We started off with cold coffees and mock tails. Here are few items that we tried which I particularly want to mention..
Cranberry hazelnut cooler – the color itself is so appealing, like Ruby Red! Perfectly sweet and sour, its sure to quench your thirst
Kiwi and coconut cooler – we heard it and went, watttt? Not in our wildest dreams we would have imagined the flavors to combine so well. But the creaminess of coconut milk and tanginess of Kiwi go very well together.
Basil orange cooler – perfect aperitif! Slight hint of basil to fresh orange juice, cleanses your palate for the next course
In terms of starters and mains Cafe 12 has two options, either you can go for continental cuisine or opt for Indian fare
Masala tangdi kebab- highlight of the meal, every chicken lovers dream ☺ chicken drumsticks spiced with secret herbs and served with spirals of fried egg on top.
Vegetable sev cutlet- being a hard core non-vegetarian I was skeptical about ordering veg dishes. But this dish literally melts in your mouth. Served like mini potatos tikkis, quantity were sufficient for a bunch of folks
Cream and lemon chicken – similar to a malai chicken but with a hint of lemon which adds a fresh taste to it.
Special shout out to paneer kurkure and three pepper bruschetta 👍
Bangers and mash – yummy chicken sausages served with mashed potatoes and gravy. Tuff competition to the Brits I must say ☺
Mediterranean pizza – and I thought I need to visit a pizza joint for a good pizza. Cafe 12 knows how to serve an authentic thin crust, loaded with olives, jalapeño and cheese pizza!
Chicken biryani- the huge plate of chicken biryani was the ultimate way to end the meal. Every spec of rice was perfectly coated with spices and the chicken was moist and flavorful. Very authentic biryani!
The owner has assured us that he has plans to offer a wine menu to complement the café food. I personally can’t wait to visit Café 12 once again when that happens because each single dish that they serve will go really well with a glass of wine!
It’s a must visit place if you are in Thane (and even if you ain’t, it certainly warrants one visit)!
