Most of us Indians still get hot home cooked meal to office but working lunches are becoming increasingly popular. There is increasing demand from the office-goers including me who like the convenience of getting neatly packed food, delivered straight to my office; food that I can eat at my desk. Health food industry is picking up as well. We are experimenting with salads, soups, sandwiches but we like them well seasoned (or call it well spiced?). After all, it is easy to deviate from our eating habits but it’s hard to compromise with those Indian taste buds!
I stay in a city that has restaurant in every corner which delivers hot curries & biryanis to my doorstep in flat 15 minutes. Lot of food startups have also made our job easier. All one needs to do is download an app and you are spoilt for choice. But I never found a restaurant that serves me a decent salad or a well made sandwich. I am not talking about upscale restaurants that serve 5 star cuisines. I am talking about food that you can eat daily and is bit light on your pocket.
Most of the food that we order in is loaded with sauces and seasoning which mainly hides the true flavor of its core ingredient – be it chicken, paneer or vegetables. How about a clean eating option – A salad which is balanced with right amount of protein, vegetables and dressing served on the side? A sandwich that is not overly greased to disguise the poor quality of the ingredients? Well that’s where 8 Food comes to your rescue. From hotpots to salads to desserts, 8 food brigs delicious food directly to your home or office.
I discovered 8 food when I was heading to Della Adventure in Lonavala and we got some neatly packed boxes of food. My first reaction was ‘OMG so much chicken!’ 🙂 Any meat loving person will truly understand the joys of seeing food loaded with meat rather than few pieces being thrown here and there.
The salad had tender pieces of barbeque chicken, crunchy fresh apple, cherry tomatoes and balsamic vinegar dressing. Few peppery rocket leaves added add the necessary zing to the salad.
I also tried the Pesto chicken sandwich – another one of my favorite combinations. The vibrant pesto sauce and the succulent chicken was a match made in heaven.
What’s more? A tall glass of lemon grass iced tea is perfect to wash down all that deliciousness isn’t it? As I switched from sandwich to salad, the lemon grass tea was a much needed palate cleanser.
A rich flour-less chocolate brownie sealed the deal!
8 Food promises to combine the best of Indian & western cultures. It is evident from their selection of flavors that they are sticking to that promise! Plus the food is freshly made to order so no more leftover curries. The company is a venture of few Brits and Indians that have come together to serve Mumbai some tasty & healthy fair. My first encounter with 8 Food has been awesome.
Currently 8 food delivers in BKC, Powai, Khar and few other places in Mumbai. I hope they start delivering to other places soon because people like are in dire need of such delicious food!
