Few days back I was invited by The Leela, Mumbai for the annual cake mixing ceremony. The event was held at one of their restaurants, Citrus. The warm, friendly Ms. Praveena Vaidyan, PR, The Leela, greeted us and led us to the ceremony. ‘It is a tradition at the hotel to welcome the holiday season with fruit soaking ceremony ahead of the festive season’ said Praveena.
Large trays were filled with variety of fruits and nuts – raisins, prunes, blackcurrants, cherries, tutti frutti, pistachios and walnuts. The ‘spirits of the season’ – Scotch, whisky, Irish stout, dark rum were in abundance.
It was fun pouring all the liquids on the dry fruits and mixing it. Within minutes the aroma of the spirits and fruits filled the air.
This joyful event ended with a high tea where we all of us sat there, enjoying some sinful desserts and feeling accomplished 🙂
The fruits and nuts will now be left to marinate till Christmas when they will be used in making the fruit cake. I can’t wait to taste the final product! It’s finally starting to feel a lot like Christmas now!
